Episode 13: Lillenesse (Part 1)

Okay, so before I start, I figured I’d preface this post by saying that I noticed I haven’t posted in a while, and why not engage in some creative writing, instead of try to find some real-world topic? Those will still come to me when they will, but in the meantime I can at least give you something to read, and vent my urge to write at the same time. As fair warning, I should point out that I have as little idea where the story will take us as you might, because I have written no outline to speak of. At the time I’m writing this sentence, I don’t even have any concepts of a general beginning and end, nor of any characters or events. It will be an adventure that we undertake together then. So, without further ado, I present what I will tentatively title “Lillenesse”, and bits and pieces of the story will filter through here as time goes on. Hope you enjoy!

First let me begin by telling you a little about myself. My name is Slissen, and I lived in a small little out-of-the-way town called Porlo in the land of Lillenesse. My home and the land I used to dwell in is not entirely unlike what I’ve seen of yours so far, although we have nothing so advanced as your structures. Ours is more a land which is one with the nature that surrounds us, and to be quite honest, I feel a sense of disquiet when I stand here in your world. It is not for me to judge your ways, I say only that it seems unsettling to me, as I come from something so vastly different. Our closeness with nature also has given us the ability to shape it as we will, though not always quickly. Some of our grandest achievements actually took several lifetimes to complete. But to see them now… Oh, how they shine in my mind even now. I suppose you might call our abilities magic. But we’ve discovered it to be more of an evolutionary symbiosis. Nature has learned to sense our intentions, and in turn, we care for and tend the plants so they thrive. This is why when your fellows asked before, I could not reproduce the same effects here. Your plants simply did not develop the skill ours did. In fact, your plants seem instead to fear you, which I cannot entirely understand. Nonetheless, you know now something of where I come from. So perhaps if you can understand that much, the rest might not seem quite as unbelieveable. Now, you might think I’d start my tale by telling you how it was a dark and stormy night. The sort that would bring on thoughts of omen and foreboding. But if I did, I’d be lying, and my goal is to tell you every detail I can remember of my journey exactly as it was. I have no need to exaggerate or embelish, because the truth itself is still quite remarkable, as you’ll see. The truth is, it was an afternoon like any other might have been. Though there were clouds in the sky, the sun still shone, and being only the beginning of our autumn, it was still pleasantly warm with only a touch of the chill to come to be felt in the breeze…
